Tom Izzo and his Michigan State staff have added a quality big man for the future in 6-9 235-pound Nick Ward from Gahanna, OH Lincoln and the All-Ohio Red summer program. He announced his decision on Twitter:
“Thank you to all the coaches who have recruited me, however I have decided to commit to The Michigan State University!” @best_at_hoopin #Spartandog
He chose Michigan State over interest from Ohio State, Indiana, Cincinnati, Purdue, and Iowa.
Ward is a nasty board man who flat out loves to body you on the blocks and explode to the hoop through contact. He attacks on the glass and is a solid shot blocker with a ready made Big Ten body. He has averaged a double-double in Nike EYBL play, 17.8 ppg and 11.1 rpg, over the first eight league games. He capped his play with a 30 point and 15 boards last weekend. He is a proto-type Izzo big man, strong, physical and very mobile who will get down and dirty on both ends. He has tools to become a good one under Izzo’s tutelage.
