Rick Pitino and his Louisville staff received a Top 50 commitment from 6-11 power forward, Malik Williams, from Fort Wayne, IN Snider High. He announced his commitment on twitter:
“I would like to thank all schools that recruited me but I will be committing to the University of Louisville.” @leek_willi34 #L1C4
He chose Louisville over Michigan State, Michigan, Iowa, Indiana and Purdue.
He started the spring a little under the radar, as he played for an independent (non-shoe company) squad in Legit Basketball, but his play on the NY2LA circuit brought him some quick accolades and he was getting noticed by coaches by the end of the second open period in the spring.
But, he became the Cardinals main big man priority in July, and that effort paid off for Coach Pitino as they were able to get this skilled face-up big man who played like a man possessed at an Under Armour event in July averaging 23 points and 13 boards to put his name on the national top fifty list.
He is very mobile, can face and pop jumper to the arc or roll off the pick to score with touch off the glass or finish with a man-sized dunk over opponents. He has tools to isolate and drive on bigs that will make him an effective high-low post forward for the Cardinals.
