Make no mistake about it, Las Vegas and The Basketball Channel lost one of their best, when my long-time broadcasting partner and great friend Brett Grant lost his battle with cancer on Thursday. Brett was a great friend, a great broadcaster, and maybe most important to him, a great husband and father!

Brett had been battling cancer for most of the past five years surviving a coma, terrible chemo treatments, and worse yet, working with me on The Basketball Channel.

I met Brett shortly after moving to Las Vegas, as he was recommended by local production people as the best play by play man in the Valley, fortunately for me those who recommended him were right. He was the consummate professional on air, had great chops, and a wealth of knowledge that he brought to every broadcast we did whether it was TV for games like the national AAU’s or Tarkanian Classic or on the radio doing our national Ballin’ Live program. “The Big Sports Fly” brought it every night!

He was a great on-air partner that was for sure, but it was getting to know him that made doing those shows a joy for me, our other co-hosts and guests.

Brett was a great family man, he loved to support his children in every endeavor whether it be baseball or school. He was a man who lived life to the fullest despite the fight he was in for his life. He was a man of conviction that expressed his opinion with knowledge of the subject he had a passion for and believed that you earn the respect of others, and treated them based on their character.

That made him a unique person in this day and age, if Brett Grant was your friend, you knew you always had someone that “Had Your Back!” and that is what made him a special friend to all who got to know him and call him friend!

LAS VEGAS WILL MISS HIM!

But, not as much as those who loved him, especially his lovely wife Kathy and his children Emily, Zachary, and Dominic. Their loss is his love, his support, and his smile…things that they will never be able to replace!

Out thoughts and prayers go out to them in this time of need, with the knowledge that Brett will want them and all who knew him to smile when they think of him…that was his way…Good Bye my friend and Rest in Peace until we meet again!
