Coach Fran McCaffery and his Iowa staff added two key pieces to their recruiting and future Iowa squads with the commitment of top eighty prospect, 6-11 post forward, Luke Garza from Washington, DC Maret and fast rising 6-9 combo forward Jack Nunge out of New Castle, IN High.
Garza made his commitment via twitter:
“I’m proud to announce that I will be attending the University of Iowa.”
He chose Iowa over interest from Louisville, Indiana, and Georgetown.
Nunge made his announcement while on his visit to Iowa City:
“I didn’t necessarily know I was going to commit (this weekend) but I kind of had an idea,” Nunge said. “Iowa has always been the place where I wanted to go!”
He chose Iowa over interest from Vanderbilt, Nebraska, Toledo, and Ball State.
The duo will remind Hawkeye fans of two of the best to don Iowa uniforms under McCaffery in Arron White (Garza) and Jared Uthoff (Nunge)! Both are highly skilled talents who can score around the hoop with their length or step away from the hoop create drive with dribble or knock down jumper to the arc. They are both excellent passers and play with an extra motor on glass and defensive end.
Garza is a physical big who is ready to step on the court and compete in the paint in the always physical Big Ten and will give opponents fits with his ability to hit turnaround on the baseline or finish through contact in the paint. Nunge on the other hand, may need a little seasoning in the weight room, but like Uthoff surprises opponents with his wiry strength and snap off the glass.
This duo joins 6-5 wing man Connor McCaffery in the Iowa Class of 2017. The Hawkeyes may be done recruiting for 2017 and will now concentrate on adding to 2018 commit 6-8 wing man Joe Wieskamp, a top thirty prospect in the rising junior class!
