Steve Pikiell and his Rutgers staff have added a much needed scorer with the tools to become a quality Big Ten talent in 6-4 swingman Montez Mathis, our No.94 rated senior, from Bel Air, MD John Carroll High.
He chose Rutgers over Connecticut and Virginia Tech. As he tweeted out: RU! #committed! @montezmathis.
He felt that the opportunity to play early and often in the Big ten was just to alluring an opportunity to pass up. He will give the Scarlet Knights a talented scorer who can knock down three and create drive and finish in traffic. He averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds in the Adidas Gauntlet series and showed his potential to be an impact scorer going over 20 points on six occasions this spring thru early July.
He joins a class that includes 6-8 rebounder Mamadou Doucoure and 6-3 combo guard Mac McClung as part of the rebounding process in New Brunswick!
