Tony Bennett and his Virginia staff added a quality piece for the future in 6’8 Alabama Transfer Braxton Key the nephew of Cavalier legend Ralph Sampson.

Key had a quick start as a freshman at Alabama averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds, but saw his numbers diminish after suffering a knee injury that kept out 10 games, as he averaged 7 points and 6 rebounds as a junior. He chose Virginia to re-start his college career:

“I chose Virginia because of the relationship with the coaches since high school. I love how close the team is, and it’s my uncle Ralph Sampson’s alma mater. I’ll miss the Crimson Tide, but I’m so grateful for this next chapter.”

He will have to sit out the coming season at Virginia and will be eligible to play with two years of eligibility starting in the fall of 2019!
