Shaka Smart and his Texas staff added a quality lead guard to head-up the Longhorns offense with the commitment of 6-1 point guard, Matt Coleman, our No.36 rated senior, from Mouth of Wilson, VA Oak Hill Academy.

“It’s the perfect fit,” Coleman told ESPN. “I’m a point guard who makes plays.”

He chose Texas over Duke and Stanford on Monday morning at the Spalding Hoop hall Classic.

This gifted lefty lead guard averaged 12.6 points and 3.2 assists on the Nike EYBL circuit last spring with the Boo Williams AAU program, but he has really blossomed this winter running the show for Oak Hill Academy. He is an excellent ball handler who can breakdown pressure and make you pay with the pass or pull-up jumper. He sees open man and is deadly when heading to therimm off the dribble.

He joins 6-9 Jericho Sims and 6-8 Royce Hamm (No. 73), as well as 6-4 shooting guard Jase Febres in the Texas Class of 2017.
