Lon Kruger and his Oklahoma Staff added a key piece for the future with the addition of 6’2 point guard Trae Young from Norman, OK North High who is rated No.9 player in the class of 2017! He announced his decision at a press conference this morning at North High!
“This is home,” Young said during a ceremony before a packed auditorium at Norman North High School. “This has always been home for me.”
He chose Oklahoma over Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Kentucky.
But, it was the success of Buddy Hield and Blake Griffin that may have led to Young’s decision to stay home, as he stated at his press conference.
“It (their success) shows that guys can come to Oklahoma,” Young said, “and do the same thing they can at other schools.”

Young has been averaging 43.1 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds a game for Norman North this winter. But, Young who teamed with our No.1 senior Michael Porter to lead Mo-Kan Elite to the Nike EYBL title is a winner and he liked the quality of the young (no pun intended) talent at OU and felt all the pieces are their to build a winner.

“They’re very young,” Young explained. “Kam McGusty & Kristian Doolittle are two of the top freshmen in the country. I can’t wait to play with those guys.”
Neither can they with him,  he is an explosive offensive talent with range to the NBA arc who can spread the floor, create and score or dish it to open man for wide open shots, lay-ins and dunks. He makes teammates better, that’s for sure! He also will get down and dirty on the defensive end where he can be a play maker.
He enters OU next fall in the same position that Melo Trimble did two years ago as a frosh at Maryland with solid talent around him in search of a leader on the floor…like Trimble, Trae Young is that guy and we expect Oklahoma to have a great turnaround next year in Norman!
