Cuonzo Martin and his California staff pulled off one of the biggest coups of the recruiting year when they added 6-6 wing man, Jaylen Brown, our no.2 rated senior, from Marietta, GA Wheeler High over the weekend.

He chose California, in a mild stunner over Michigan, Kentucky, North Carolina, UCLA, Kansas, and in-state schools Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Most experts had it down to Michigan and Kentucky, but Brown’s desire to play with Cal signee, 6-10 Ivan Rabb was too much and he has decided to join him at California and become a Golden Bear!

No one told Cuonzo Martin or the lead assistant in Brown’s recruiting Tracy Webster, and they continued to put the effort in to make Brown’s decision the right one, for him and Cal!

Brown averaged 28 points and 12 boards as a senior in route to a spot on the McDonald’s All-American squad. He has all the tools to swing at the 2-3 spots in college, attacking the basket off the dribble or knocking down jumpers, with an ever improving stroke. He has the handles to drive with either hand and is the best pure scorer in the Class of 2015. He will become the Mr. Outside to Rabb’s Mr. Inside forming a collegiate version of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant potentially for the Golden Bears!

Athletically Brown is ready to be a one and done prospect, but depending on the Golden Bears success, he could stay and lead them to deep runs in the NCAA over the next season or two (if he and Rabb stay in school). They (Brown & Rabb) will team with fellow recruits 6-4 Tyson Jolly and 6-5 Davon Dillard to give Coach Martin a deep, but young squad that can challenge for the Pac-12 title next year!
